Lan Ha Bay feels made for slow cruising. I love the combo of Dark and Bright cave bamboo rowing and the included spring-roll cooking class, because it gives you both big scenery time and hands-on Vietnamese culture. One possible drawback: the day starts early in Hanoi and the road transfer is long, so shuttle seating can feel tight for taller travelers unless you upgrade your transport.
What makes this tour work so well is the rhythm. You get a pickup around 7:00 to 7:30 in Hanoi (usually at your hotel), a smooth ride to Tuan Chau Marina, and then a full day at sea with an English-speaking guide, lunch served in an air-conditioned setting, and a classic Halong Bay day that still leaves room to actually enjoy it.
